Keep On Keepin’ On

Well, folks, it looks like the new year is going to keep on trucking just like the end of the last year did. Welcome to 2014!

Today’s post is going to be short, as I’m finding myself with quite a list of things to get done today. So, with that said, here’s a simple reflection of the past few weeks.

Our Yule traditions went alright. Although I think we’ll do some shifting and tweaking in the coming years. Given that a gift every day for twelve days is sort of impractical (and something I never really expected to work out), as the boys get older I hope to intersperse those days with fun projects and good deeds. Baking and decorating a bûche de Noël has always been on my list of things I’d like to do for the holiday, and maybe building a ginger bread house (I know that is definitely something on my husband’s wish list), as well as donating toys and clothing, and volunteering our time in some sort of community service. We shall see how it all evolves.

Once the new year rolled around and we took down our Yule decorations, this mama decided it was time. So, I unpacked that beautiful clean new curriculum I mentioned in my last post, and we dove right in. Monster has “officially” started preschool! The curriculum we’re working on is one for pre-reading skills. (I may do a review later on, after we’ve covered more of the material). While Monster has a pretty good grasp of a lot of what we’re covering already, it’s helping us to be sure he’s going to have all the ins-and outs he needs before we actually break into the vast world of books.

Monster's started preschool! He is L.O.V.I.N.G. it. (Not that we thought he’d have any other reaction to “starting school”.)

In the world of the grown-ups, I’m happy to say that keeping up a healthy relationship with my husband is also working out well in the new year! This mom and dad have been able to go out on a date already! (Let’s hope the rest of the year takes a cue!!)Row & LT do brunch

The start of this week also brought around another yearly milestone for our family. Our younger son turned three years old on Monday!

He still wouldn’t eat the cake (even though I made him a separate piece with no icing on it!), but he had a great day.

Here is our little boy over the last three years (birth, and years 1, 2, and 3). You can definitely see the little boy he’s growing up to be!Seasons of the World Tree - 01-16-2014 04 Bug Through the Years

This weekend, I get to head up to my home town and spend some time with some dear friends. I’m so looking forward to it. And I know, I am blessed.

I do hope 2014 continues to look like this!

I hope your new year is looking bright as well.
